Some might argue that selling out your best friend is a bad thing to do, but he did it with the intentions of not lying because lying just makes things worse. Another example is when Landen tells the truth about what really happened with Thursday’s brother. Many book lovers might look at this as a monstrous act but I disagree because his intentions were good. For example, when Mycroft burns the original Chuzzlewit manuscript, he does so with the thought of saving the book for Hades. Other characters do things that are considered “bad” but they do not do them with intentions of hurting others. Schitt can also be seen as monstrous because he is more worried about making money then the well fair of anyone else and is not afraid to bad things in order to make sure that he gets his money. When the original manuscript of Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens disappears under impossible circumstances, Thursday finds. Thursday's job is to solve crimes related to literature. In this novel, Thursday Next is a detective with SO-27, the LiteraTec division. Hades is monstrous because everything he does, he does with the intention of being evil and causing harm to others. The Eyre Affair is a unique detective novel by Welsh writer, Jasper Fforde. I think that in this novel being monstrous all has to do with your intentions. In The Eyre Affair there are no physical monsters in the sense of magical creatures.
